Something borrowed…

I did my book discussion of the Complete Persepolis (Marjane Satrapi) this week. It went well! I wasn’t sure how a graphic novel would go over for a book discussion but the response was good. In getting prepared for the discussion, I had the good fortune of seeing Ms. Satrapi speak on 4/4/08. She recounted how Maus by Art Spiegelman was a revelation. She received the comic as a birthday gift from her new friends in France when she was in her mid-20’s. The book taught her that comics were the medium, not just the genre. Maus was a big inspiration in helping her bring her story to life through the use of comics. So I checked out Maus. My husband is reading it.
